Issues to be aware of when installing grooved pipe fittings
Grooved pipe fittings, using grooved pipe joints, are becoming increasingly popular in various types of building installations. Their speed and reliability have been recognized by installation industry professionals, and they are also widely used in fire protection engineering. However, existing design and construction standards do not adequately address the issues that should be considered when connecting rigid and flexible clamps using different connection methods. Many clauses in existing Chinese product standards for clamps are also related to manufacturing standards. In actual construction, some suggestions are offered regarding the problems encountered when connecting Shanxi grooved pipe fittings with clamps and their solutions.
I. For rigid clamp installation on DN250 pipelines, following the manufacturer's product manual generally yields satisfactory results.
II. When using flexible clamps to connect DN300 pipelines, please pay attention to the following installation details:
1. Quality of Shanxi Grooved Pipe Fittings:
The outer diameter, wall thickness uniformity, and roundness tolerance of the pipe ends of Shanxi grooved pipe fittings must not exceed national standards. 1. **Prevention of Nozzle Deformation:** When loading and unloading steel pipes, avoid nozzle deformation.
2. Nozzle Pressure Grooving Measurement and Visual Inspection:
Before applying pressure to the nozzle, check if the nozzle end face is perpendicular to the pipe centerline, if the nozzle fillet tolerance exceeds the standard, and if any burrs around the nozzle have been removed and ground. For example, if the nozzle's roundness exceeds the standard or it is deformed, it must be cut off.
3. Shanxi Grooved Pipe Fitting Stamping Process:
For grooving long steel pipes, to reduce the amount of rotational fluctuation during grooving, a support frame needs to be installed, with ball bearing support points on the frame. Strictly adhere to the grooving depth; the grooving depth must meet the requirements of the product manufacturer's instructions. During operation, pay attention to the speed at which the groove depth is gradually reached. Dies exceeding their service life must be replaced promptly. After pushing the can, immediately remove any peeling galvanized sheet from inside the nozzle and perform anti-corrosion treatment. When handling, hoisting, and unloading the completed grooved pipe, take care to protect the nozzle groove from deformation.
4. Appearance Quality of Shanxi Grooved Pipe Fittings:
Because large-diameter steel strips are manufactured using ball mill cast iron sand molds, manufacturing precision is affected by various factors. Therefore, a sampling inspection of the appearance is conducted, including the following items:
4.1 Flexible strips rolled into flat plates with diameters that are too large or too small are unacceptable. Generally, when setting the inner diameter of the two strips and the outer diameter of the steel pipe, the gap between the two strips should be around 2mm, and the roundness must not exceed the standard. Otherwise, please adjust before wearing.
4.2 The flange height and thickness of each clamp inserted into the pressure groove must conform to the manufacturer's enterprise standards.
4.3 The radial deformation of each clamp itself must not exceed the standard.
5. Installation Precautions for Shanxi Grooved Pipe Fittings Clamps:
5.1 The quality of clamp installation, especially flexible clamp installation, depends not only on the above points but also on the pipe material, external dimensions, pipe end deformation, pressure groove quality, and the quality and dimensional tolerances of the clamp itself.
5.2 Please note the following when installing large-diameter flexible belts of DN300 and above.
5.2.1 Rubber Gasket Material and Appearance Inspection:
The materials and formulas of rubber gaskets vary depending on the medium being used. The installation unit should request a product quality commitment letter and a physical and mechanical performance test report of the rubber gasket from the manufacturer, ensuring the gasket has the same service life as the unit's process. Visual inspection should reveal no damage or deformation, and the rubber sealing surface should be free of bubbles, impurities, cracks, unevenness, and other defects.
5.2.2 Installation of Grooved Pipe Fittings in Shanxi:
a. Touch the grooves and holes by hand, or visually inspect for one week. No burrs, damage, or cracks should be left. Also, remove any dirt around the nozzle.
b. After applying lubricant around the rubber gasket, hook the two ends of the steel pipe by hand. At this time, ensure that the tension applied around the rubber seal is approximately uniform.
c. Install two grooved pipes, and tighten the bolts symmetrically on both sides to ensure that the gaps between the grooves are approximately equal. If the connection between the tube and the rubber gasket is not sufficiently tight after tightening, use both hands to push the tube with a disc to ensure even contact between the entire tube and the packing. Observe each section of the tube entering the groove and tighten the bolts symmetrically and sequentially. If wrinkled protrusions appear on the packing during tightening, replace the packing.
5.2.3 Ensure that the trough-type pipe flange is securely inserted into the groove, and tighten the bolts symmetrically on both sides. This "secured flange" refers to a protrusion of approximately 2mm on the flange of the tube, at the same height as the groove depth, flush with the recess that appears after pressing the nozzle groove. The flange of the finished product may be too thick, excessively deformed, or the surface may be excessively twisted. Repair it on-site if possible; otherwise, discard it and replace it with another. Therefore, on-site personnel need to conduct a thorough inspection and only reinstall after the basic requirements are met to avoid rework.
5.2.4 When using imported and domestic trough-type pipe fittings in Shanxi, it is essential to understand in advance the standards adopted by each manufacturer and to use fittings that are compatible with the trough-type pipe fittings. Otherwise, due to different standards, large-scale pressure test failures can easily occur, causing significant losses.
